The Desert Laboratory on Tumamoc Hill: Edith Shreve

Edith Shreve worked at the Desert Laboratory from 1910 until 1940. A plant physiologist trained in physics and chemistry, she studied autonomic movements in the cholla cactus, as well as transpiration of the palo verde tree. Shreve also worked on methods of determining leaf temperature and leaf transpiration, and absorption of water by gelatine.
