Daniel T. MacDougal worked at the Desert Laboratory from 1905 until 1919, and was the director of the Desert Laboratory from 1906 until 1928. He studied reciprocal transplants of desert and montane plants, as well as the tolerance of succulents for dehydration. MacDougal was a founding member of The Ecological Society of America.
