The bridge on the right side of this photograph spans the Gila
River between Clifton and Safford, Arizona. This bridge formerly was the main
route between the two cities. The Gila River flows right to left in this view,
and downstream from this point enters a narrow canyon. Isolated cottonwood
trees are present on the near side of the channel, behind small mesquite trees
that are established above the floodplain. Native coyote willows and brickellbush
line the far side of the channel.
