Gila River near Clifton (09442000), October 4, 2000

Dominic Oldershaw, Stake 358
Four floods larger than 15,000 ft3/s occured at this
state after the 1980 photograph. Despite these floods, riparian vegetation
increased to the point of completely obscuring the channel. Even the opening
under the bridge is nearly blocked by the vegetation, which include cottonwoods,
mesquite, coyote willows, Goodding willows, and brickellbush. Tamarisk is
also present at this site but is a minor component of the riparian ecosystem
