Last Day Gully: Supplemental Report

Data Files:

Note: After this file had been prepared for publication as a sample file but before submitting it to the repositories, two additional field surveys had been made: September 6, 1967 and June 27, 1968. These surveys consisted of resurveying the cross-sections listed in tables 2-14; the new data are appended in tables 2A-14A. Also measured were values of ground-surface erosion at stations listed in tables 15-16; the new data are appended in tables 15A-16A. Two mass-movement lines installed in 1963 were resurveyed; all mass-movement data are listed in table 19. The mass-movement lines consist of 10-inch spikes driven into the ground at various distances between two end benchmarks. They are resurveyed periodically to determine their downslope position relative to the rigid benchmarks. The individual pins are not permanent and require periodic maintenance, however, the end benchmarks are permanent. Channel scour and fill was measured at three locations; the data for all surveys are listed in table 20. Because surveys are conducted annually, these scour-fill data do not represent total scour and fill for each flow, but only the annual net scour and fill. High-water marks on the crest-stage gage were observed; these data are listed in table 21. Three soil samples were collected in 1963; their size distributions are listed in table 22. A vegetation description obtained in 1963 from a 15-foot quadrat extending west and north from BM A is listed in table 23. Some of the headcuts occurring in the discontinuous gully were periodically measured to determine their rate of upstream retreat. These data are listed in table 24.
